U2 singer Bono has degenerative eye condition; getting worse

According to Julian Lennon, son of Beatles legend John Lennon, in a recent interview with the Irish Daily Star on Jan. 6, Bono’s eyesight is getting worse.

Bono is known for his trendy eyewear, but not everyone knows about the degenerative medical condition behind them. “I don’t know the exact issue but the brightness of the sun hurts them and it’s a deteriorating issue,” says Lennon. If someone takes a photograph Bono will see the flash for the rest of the day. His right eye swells.

Fans of U2 know that the colored shades are part of the Bono trademark. Bono has admitted that his glasses aren’t always for vanity purposes. In 2005 he revealed his condition the Irish Daily Star, stating that “its part vanity, part privacy, and part sensitivity.”

Julian, now doing photography, spent some time with Bono and the rest of U2 recently in Dublin taking photographs of the band rehearsing their news songs for the new album due out later this year.
