After months of looking, U2 still haven't found what they're looking for in the city of Montreal.
There isn't a venue in the Canadian city big enough to house U2's massive staging for their ongoing 360 Tour, so the band are taking matters into their own hands... And building their own stadium.
According to the Montreal Gazette, U2 are paying $3.0 million to renovate and expand the Hippodrome - a former horse racing stadium - to help it accommodate the band's July 16 date on their upcoming summer tour.
The band and Live Nation, their promoter, have been attempting to schedule a Montreal date for months, but they have been unable to find an open-air venue that can fit U2's 150-foot-wide stage and massive 'claw' housing.
The 60,000-seat Olympic Stadium was was not an option because the roof is not retractable, and both Jean Drapeau Park and the Hippodrome are too small.
Rather than skip the city altogether, U2 have decided to fund the needed renovations at the Hippodrome to host their tour.
