Rear Admiral John F. Kirby released a statement yesterday that has some Olympians and fans a bit on edge. United States Navy warships will be on standby if needed to evacuate people in the event of a terrorist attack at the games in Sochi, Russia.
In part, the release from Rear Adm. Kirby:
The United States has offered its full support to the Russian government as it conducts security preparations for the Winter Olympics.
To that end, U.S. commanders in the region are conducting prudent planning and preparations should that support be required.
Air and naval assets, to include two Navy ships in the Black Sea, will be available if requested for all manner of contingencies in support of -- and in consultation with -- the Russian government.
The names of the U.S. aircraft ships and transport ships were not named.
Media sources indicate the U.S. government also has other aircraft “contracted by the State Department” available should it be necessary.
Former NSA and CIA director Michael Hayden made every effort to indicate that he trusts “Russia’s ability to provide security.”
International authorities seem to think there is a "clear and present danger" from what they are calling a Black Widow; a young Muslim woman believe to be on a suicide mission to avenge the death of a loved one. Those same authorities also believe she is not working alone.
Local hotels and vendors are on high-alert for this woman.
