Move over Tiger, there is a new animal in town.

A newcomer took the golf world by storm during the first day of the Presidents Cup on Thursday. His name is Sammy the squirrel, and people are nuts about him.

U.S. team assistant captain Davis Love III began feeding the squirrel after finding him at the second hole. By the end of the round, it appeared that the Americans had found a new mascot. Sammy spent the rest of the round riding shotgun in Love’s golf cart.

"He rode around with me today," said Love. "My dad always picked up sticks for good luck, and he told me I had to keep it as long as were winning holes."

On the 18th hole, Tiger Wood’s girlfriend, and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn removed the squirrel from Love’s pocket; placing it on Tiger’s shoulder.

Always the epitome of concentration; Woods was so focused on the match that he failed to notice the team’s furry little friend for a few moments. He then brushed Sammy off as the rest of the American contingent burst into laughter.

"Tiger actually liked him," said Love. "And Lindsey loves him."

Coming out of a forest of relative obscurity; Sammy now plans to take advantage of his newly-minted celebrity status. He will reportedly be visiting Jack Hanna at the Columbus Zoo on Friday.
