Amidst the slight increase in the numbers of billionaires, who are primarily associated with Internet associated interests, there has never been a wider divide between the extremely wealthy and the extremely poor in the United States. Unemployment, poverty and homelessness have been soaring across the country for years. This has resulted in a dwindling of faith in the U.S.A. with Money News reporting on Nov. 1, 2013, that Gallup has found overall the U.S. is no longer a land of opportunity.
A new Gallup poll has revealed fewer Americans than ever are viewing the United States as offering a lot of opportunity to get ahead. In a poll of 1,000 adults by Gallup, just 52 percent say America has plenty of economic opportunity. This is the lowest on record. Furthermore, about half say that future generations will enjoy less economic opportunity than the present generation does.
Gallup researchers say there are now many political leaders and other observers who really see economic opportunity in the U.S.A. as being on the skids. It appears a significant portion of the general population agrees. The concept of economic mobility as being great in the U.S.A. has been dying. Rags to riches stories are not around much these days.
Newsmax has reported that Stiglitz no longer sees the U.S. as a land of opportunity. Nobel laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz says the United States certainly no longer offers a fair playing field for opportunity. He claims for about the past quarter of a century America has not been a land of opportunity. In fact he thinks the United States has less equality of opportunity than just about any other advanced industrial country.
Growing income inequality coupled with high unemployment rates across the United States have challenged faith in economic opportunity. This is a really sad view of things, with it appearing many of the nations lawmakers and most of the extremely wealthy sectors of the American society may be blind to the unjust nature of what is really going on around them. In the long run if this trend continues it appears possible the entire American system as we know it may collapse as street gangs and even cannibalism take over the streets of the entire country.
