In 2013, the United States Mint will release a quarter that celebrates White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. It is part of a series of coins released under the America the Beautiful Quarters program, which began in 2010 and has scheduled releases to 2021.
White Mountain National Forest is at the northern end of the Appalachian Mountains. The Appalachian Trail traverses 100 miles of its land. Mount Washington is the highest peak in White Mountain National Forest, and is also the highest mountain north of the Smoky Mountains.
Other quarters commemorating the beauty and history of the Appalachian Mountains will also be released. Both Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Shenandoah National Park will have quarters released in 2014. Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park will have quarters released in 2016. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy currently headquarters in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
The design of the White Mountain National Forest quarter has not yet been released. It is expected to be revealed at the end of the year, before the release of the quarter in 2013.
