U.S. military bases get ready to house hundreds of illegal minors

Americans probably missed the memo: Military bases across the United States are now gearing up to warehouse unaccompanied, undocumented minors.

Port Hueneme in Ventura, Calif., will now use a 42,000 sq, ft. building, previously used as predeployment housing for Navy Reservists as temporary housing for an unknown number of teenagers who have crossed into the United States illegally.

Rep. Tom Cole of Okla., has expressed his concern over the move as Fort Sill in Lawton gears up to house some 600 unaccompanied minors.

The minors are typically between 13 and 17 years of age and come into the U.S. from Latin America crossing the border in New Mexico, California, Texas, and Arizona.

Fort Sill and Port Hueneme could begin receiving hundreds of illegal juveniles as early as June 10. Other bases in the U.S. have been directed to follow suit.

A variety of reasons put young migrants on the path into the U.S.

Examiner's Note: Citizens with concerns over this policy are urged to contact their congressmen. The financial drain on the U.S. economy could be huge not to mention predator risks to the teens and security risks for the bases. How did this fly under the radar?
