U.S. junior tennis players invited to train at Davis Cup Development Camp

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Eight junior boys are in Jacksonville for the USTA Player Development Davis Cup Camp, held today through Sunday, during the U.S. vs. Brazil Davis Cup tie.

The Davis Cup matches are being held at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Per the USTA, the players taking part in the invitational camp are Stefan Kozlov (14, Pembroke Pines, Fla.), Henrik Wiersholm, (15, Kirkland, Wash.), William Blumberg (15, Greenwich, Conn.), Jake Devine (15, Boca Raton, Fla.), Eduardo Nava (15, Woodland Hills, Calif.), Reilly Opelka (15, Palm Coast, Fla.), Alfredo Perez (15, Coral Gables, Fla.) and Nathan Ponwith (14, Scottsdale, Ariz.).

The USTA Player Development Davis Cup camp is allowing the nation’s top 14- and
15-year olds juniors to train with one another as well as watch and interact with the U.S. Davis Cup team.

The Davis Cup camp will be coached by USTA National Coaches Diego Moyano and Eric Nunez.

Kozlov, maybe the best known of the group is currently the youngest played ranked in the Top 70 of the ITF World Junior Rankings at No. 66. He played for the United States before, in the 16-and-under Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas this past fall. He went 4-1 in singles play to help the U.S. to a third place finish in Barcelona.

Wiersholm also has a world ranking, at No. 137.

Blumberg trains at the USTA Player Development National Training Center-East at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. He captured three ITF junior singles titles in the fall of 2012.

The players will gain valuable experience from the members of the Davis Cup Team. Seeing how professional these guys are, and how they go about their business under the direction of Captain Jim Courier should pay dividends in the future.
