Think of the Junior Japan International, to take place September 24-25 in Yokohama, as a reward for good behavior at the U.S. Championships.
This year, two sets of promising young juniors from three very strong gyms will represent the U.S.: Lexie Priessman and Amelia Hundley of Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy will compete on the women's side, while Adrian de los Angeles (SCATS) and Sean Melton (Orlando Metro) will compete for the junior men's title.
All four had excellent results at the U.S. Championships in St. Paul -- Priessman, she of one of the best Amanars in the business, and Hundley, a happy, bubbly gymnast who dances with real joy on floor exercise, finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the all-around. Melton and de los Angeles won the all-around in the men's 14-15 and 16-18 age divisions.
SCATS's Grigor Chalikyan and Cincinnati's Mary Lee Tracy will be the U.S. coaches at this event, according to USA Gymnastics.
