U.S. debt considered risky by Chinese economists

As Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner visited China to calm their nerves about the huge debt being incurred by the United States, a survey of Chinese economists published on Sunday called its holdings of U.S. bonds as "risky."

                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Timothy Geithner

According to ChinaGate, among the 23 experts in the survey, 17 said they believe U.S. equities post great risks to China's economy. The purpose of Geithner's trip is to try to convince the U.S.'s biggest creditor that its huge holding of bonds is safe.

Meanwhile Chinese experts are expressing concern over the risk, saying that

...the United States may export its deepening crisis to China by printing U.S. dollars uncontrollably.

Five of the 23 economists disagree, saying that they don't believe that U.S. equities post great risks to China's economy. However, other experts feel that the holding of U.S. debt can be very dangerous as

the Americans are not going to reduce the speed of printing dollars.

Meanwhile, the economists are advising China to expand its investments on tangible and strategic materials such as grain, energy and mineral resources (as it is already doing all over the world.) It is being recommended that China use neighboring countries in Asia as its new investment destination.
