U.S., China trade relations doc opens in Chicago this weekend

"Death By China", a new documentary about China's recent impact on the U.S. economy, opens Friday at the Muvico theater in Rosemont, IL. The film is directed by economist Peter Navarro, a professor at the University of California. Navarro will attend early evening screenings of the film on March 22 and 23, and will be present for panel discussions following the screenings.

Narrated by Martin Sheen, "Death By China" explores the trade relationship between U.S. and China, starting with China's initiation into the World Trade Organization in 2001. Since then, companies have off-shored manufacturing operations(and jobs) to save on labor costs and boost profits. The film features such high-profile companies as Boeing, Apple, and Caterpillar, as each have opened up new manufacturing hubs in Asia.

Navarro has made frequent appearances on Bloomberg TV and is a regular contributor to CNBC. His writings have appeared in Harvard Business Review, Barron's, and The Los Angeles Times. Navarro has an Economics Ph.D. from Harvard.

"We hope to give the highest possible visibility to an issue that is all too often ignored….the incredibly corrosive loss of America's once formidable manufacturing base to a cheating China," Navarro commented.

"Death By China" will screen at Muvico in Rosemont March 22-28. Director Navarro will be attendance at the 7:45pm screenings on March 22 and 23, and will be present for a post-screening Q&A session afterwards. Showtimes and ticket sales can be found at the Muvico website.
