Although fans may expect less-than-friendly greetings with the news headline “Tyson, Holyfield meet” topping search engines this morning, Yahoo News reported this Saturday, Feb. 16, that former heavyweight pro-boxing champions Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield recently encountered one another, but only smiles and hugs followed their meeting — and not a single bite to the ear.
The former champions’ fight was long gone as Mike Tyson met Evander Holyfield this weekend at a Jewel-Osco in Chicago, greeting one another like old friends with a friendly hug. The Tyson, Holyfield meeting was no surprise, either; Mike Tyson arrived to support the former boxer as he promoted his new barbecue sauce.
“I just wanted to see Evander, man. I love Evander,” said Tyson. “I’m forever linked with him for the rest of my life.”
Although the two former champions getting along may not be easy to believe considering Tyson once bit of a part of Holyfield’s ear during one of their matches, Tyson has turned over a new leaf in regards to his friend. He’s reportedly “baring his soul on stage,” and is currently visiting over 36 cities to discuss his previous championship and downward spiral: and how he’s working to get back on top again.
Holyfield added on his friend's "conversion" of sorts:
"I think he was letting people know that he was wrong and what happened, happened," he said. "He appreciates that I forgave him. He's forgiven himself. That's how you make adjustments in life."
