In news update from The Christian Science Monitor reported on April 7 that the USDA has found that small pieces of plastic have been found in the chicken nuggets made by Tyson Foods which have been traced back to a plastic part within the blending machine where they are processed.
There have been more than 75,000 pounds of chicken nuggets recalled due to the possibility of plastic pieces present in the chicken. So far only minor injuries to the mouth and throat have been reported. The machinery in question is being replaced in the facility located in Sedalia, Missouri.
The Tyson nugget recall affects those frozen white meat packages currently sold around the nation in the Sam’s Club stores. The Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service has deemed this to be a Class II recall. The specific packages to be aware of are:
20 pound bulk packs of “Spare Time Fully Cooked Nugget-Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters w/Rib Meat – 16142-861” with identifying case codes of “0264SDL0315 through 19” and “0474SDL0311 through 14.”
5 pound bags of “Tyson Fully Cooked White Meat Chicken Nuggets – 16142-928” with Best if Used By date of Jan. 26, 2015 or Feb. 16, 2015. The manufacturer codes “0264SDL0315 through 19” and “0474SDL0311 through 14” can also be found on the bags.
