Super model and business woman extraordinaire Tyra Banks could be giving RuPaul a run for his money with her new Transgender docu-series titled TransAmerica coming to VH1.
Banks (America’s Next Top Model) creator and producer teamed up with the cable network Viacom to executive co- produce the eight-episode docu-series.
The program will chronicle the lives of five Chicago women who share a bond of being transgender. The docu-series will explore their careers, lifestyle, and relationships and how their sexuality impacts their lives.
According to the Hollywood reporter model and activist Carmen Carrera will lead the five women in the hour long series slated to debut in late 2014 or early 2015. Carrera is a transgender reality TV personality who gained worldwide fame following her appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag U. Carrera is a firm believer in the power of beauty a quote on her website sums it up “Gender does not exist in the terms of beauty”.
Carrera broke the mold and set new standards of beauty in the fashion world. Carrera debut as a fashion model with a 16-page spread in W magazine for the Fall Fashion 2013 edition after a contract deal with Elite Model Management.
Susan Levison, executive vice president of programming for VH1 shared her thoughts about the show and said this according to the Hollywood reporter. "It would be easy to focus on the transgender aspect, but this series is about so much more, this is a show about a group of compelling, gorgeous young friends who are on a unique journey while staying true to their authentic selves. We believe that message resonates."
