On Sunday the website Digital Spy published an interview with Banks in which she confirmed that the film is being developed by Disney. Banks said she had an interview to go to that day to discuss the script and that the film could be finished by "late 2014 or 2015... it will be back - Life-Size will be back, better than ever." She also stated that the sequel will be both "very different" and "very modern" but was unable to give any further details about the project due to the stipulations of her contract with Disney.
As soon as the story broke it was picked up by various news outlets as well as making the rounds on social media. Banks responded to a fan question on her Twitter account about the rumor of a sequel by writing "Tis true, Love." Another fan's reaction also garnered Banks' attention on Twitter when singer Miley Cyrus made sure her followers knew how excited she was about the news of a sequel. In one tweet she quoted the lyrics of "Be A Star", the film's main theme song, while in another she wrote "OMG" twenty-four times. She later made similar posts on her Facebook and Instagram accounts.
According to Entertainment Weekly [EW] the sequel will be executive produced by Banks who will also perform a new version of "Be A Star" in the film. EW also noted that the sequel was part of her deal with Disney and that it would be a Disney Channel Original Movie [DCOM].
Life-Size is a made-for-TV movie that debuted on March 5, 2000 as part of ABC's The Wonderful World Of Disney. The film was a moderate success but gained in popularity over the years through subsequent airings on Disney Channel as well as sales/rentals of its DVD and VHS releases.
