If you’re like me, the shovel and snow blower have remained ready and waiting for the first real snow to put them to work. Here we are in the middle of January and their starting to collect significant dust in the garage.
So far this season Grand Rapids has only received a measly 9.6 inches. This is a whopping 30.2 inches below average.
A significant pattern shift is about to take place releasing the cold arctic air that’s been trapped up in northern Canada. A series of disturbances will dive south into the lower 48 states bringing cold air, a northwest wind and yes, lake effect snowfall.
From the Grand Rapids National Weather Service “Areas west of U.S.-131 could see a decent amount of snow accumulation from Saturday afternoon through Tuesday. Amounts this far out are hard to pinpoint, however it does look like the area should make up some of the lack of snowfall that has occurred so far this year.”
My snow removal equipment may get the first workout for the season in the coming days.
The coldest day will likely be on Tuesday with lows in the single numbers and highs in the teens.
