Award-winning actor, director and playwright Tyler Perry is in the middle of a real life drama worthy of one of his films. Atlanta Police are investigating whether Perry was a victim of racial profiling in a recent traffic stop involving two white officers. Perry claims he was "badgered" by the officers and that one pounded on the tinted windows of his car while the other tried to turn off his engine.

Perry lives in Atlanta and runs a high profile television production studio where he shot "House of Payne", "Meet the Browns" and other shows. Perry also filmed several of his hit movies here, including "Diary of a Mad Black Woman", "Madea Goes to Jail" and his latest, "Tyler Perry's Good Deeds."

Perry says the incident happened as he was headed to the Atlanta airport without his usual security escort. "Most times when I leave the studio I have an unmarked escort, " Perry writes on his Facebook page. "Other times I constantly check in my rearview mirror to be sure that I'm not being followed. It's a safety precaution that my security team taught me."

The safety precaution that got Perry in trouble with the cops is a maneuver that he says he uses to make sure he isn't being followed-- a left turn from the right lane at intersections.

The filmmaker is upset about what happened after the traffic stop. In a post on his Facebook page, Perry says the confrontation with the two officers threatened to escalate until a third officer arrived on the scene. The third officer, who is black, immediately recognized the "Good Deeds" star whom Forbes Magazine named the highest paid man in entertainment.

Tensions eased once the black officer told his colleagues about Perry's high profile status and he was not ticketed for the illegal turn.

An Atlanta Police Spokesman says the Office of Professional Standards is checking to see whether any of the department's policies or procedures were violated.
