For those of you following the first-round pick signing of Tyler Matzek by the Colorado Rockies, there has been a lot of speculation regarding where he might end up pitching next.
Some reports say he may go directly to the Rockies, while others say he still has the option of going to the University of Oregon. If he goes to Oregon, he would be eligible for up to $16,000 for eight semesters through the Major League Baseball College Scholarship Program. If he does go directly to the Rockies, he will most likely at least pitch his first year with the Sky Sox and be on the Rockies 40 man roster. If that’s the case, he may get the opportunity to make an appearance with the Rockies as soon as next year. Again, that’s just speculation. There doesn’t seem to be anyone who knows exactly where Matzek will end up next.
In all honesty, he could end up in a variety of different places. This could be at any of the Rockies affiliates such as: the Casper Ghosts (R), the Tri-City Dust Devils (A), the Asheville Tourists (A), the Modesto Nuts (A), the Tulsa Drillers (AA), or the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (AAA).
At this point, everything is just speculation, so hopefully within the next few days there will be more information about what will happen with Matzek. When that happens, with any luck, there will be some additional information posted here on this page about where Matzek will play.
