News that an oil tycoon's grandson has died is not only a growing mystery, but the family calls Thomas Boone Pickens IV's death an "unspeakable family tragedy" A spokesperson for the family confirms the 21-year-old Texas Christian University student was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday, but after that details are sketchy. Meantime, in a statement on TCU's website, police confirm they are investigating Ty Boone's death.
The family nor Fort Worth police are saying how T. Boone Picken's grandson, who went by Ty, died -- and only that a medical examiner will determine the cause. However, a statement on the TCU website today (Wednesday) reveals new details about the incident -- some adding more questions and than answers. According to the statement, police were called to the Century Colonial Park Apartments at 9:33 a.m. on Tuesday. Police say it's unclear if Ty Boone lived at the apartments, since the college directly lists the junior strategic communication major's residence as elsewhere.
Adding further questions to the circumstances surrounding the tycoon grandson's death, is the fact that after officers arrived on the scene Pickens was taken by a private vehicle to a local hospital. It's at the hospital where he was confirmed dead a police spokesperson confirms. However, it's unclear if Pickens was alive when he arrived at the hospital, died on the way, or was already dead when he left the apartments.
Ty Boone's 84-year-old grandfather made billions drilling oil. The Oklahoma oil tycoon has since become an advocate for alternative energy.
