The stepping Move Makers from Teens With A Purpose of Norfolk, put on a skirt shimmy, audience screaming step performance at the Phat Conference on Saturday March 29th. Booker T Washington High School hosted the lively event. The step competition had step teams from many schools and colleges in the Norfolk area. Teens were in abundance, and showed team spirit. A lucky attendee won a lap top computer, and another a camera. The atmosphere was joyful as each team performed.
The Phat Conference is in its 8th year, and it focuses on addressing the issues of teen health. In this day and age of high tech gadgets, social media, and a lack of exercise, events such as stepping gives teens a chance to fit rigorous activity into a daily non moving routine. Step Teams have afforded female, and male teams to form in the City of Norfolk, and all over the country.
The Move Makers are a part of Teens With A Purpose TWP of Norfolk. Teens come together to talk about issues that are important to teens, and are coached by their peers. Events such as Poetry Slams, Stepping, and Music Made Simple are some of the subjects teens learn, and share with others. Teens get the opportunity to express themselves. It is a good fit for parents, schools, the City of Norfolk, and the teen population.
