Piggy-backing this year's New Orleans Film Festival, 'Web Weekend' is a project organised by the New Orleans Video Access Center as a fresh way to support the local filmmakers' community and provide smashing resources to web-based video creators. Let's face it: web-based filmmaking is continually on the rise. It's shaping new ways to communicate visual storytelling, and bringing the best networking and learning opportunities to the NOLA is advantageous to our local-based web mediamakers.
Featured panelists will present discussions on web media and distributions, and the conference will also contain master classes, as well as the obvious networking opportunities with other local filmmakers and film advocates. Panelists include:
• Claire Graves (Managing Director, Webby Awards)
• Allison Hord (Producer, Funny or Die)
• Charles Ingram (Writer, Funny or Die)
• Mark Gannt (Actor/Producer/Director, The Bannen Way)
• Angela Tucker (Director/Producer, Black Folk Don't)
• Andrew Mer (VP of Content Partnerships, SnagFilms)
• Mike Tringe (Co-Founder, CreatorUp!)
Representatives 'College Humor' are pegged for attendance, too.
As part of NOVAC's outreach to make this program successful, they've put together a Kickstarter campaign to raise additional funds in support of the high level guests who will participate in WebWeekend. Contributions will be used to pay for venues and catering, as well as offering panelists a quality visit with travel support that will ensure eager participation at similar, future events.
The campaign has two weeks left to reach their goal of $5,000. It's halfway there (literally and financially), and only your active support can bring it to the finish line. Pass the word on to others who desire more and better filmmaker programs, and join the event along with the Film Festival this October.
Details on planned events can be found online. Tickets are also now available for purchase for the whole weekend. Admission to the 3-day event is $20 for current NOVAC members, $30 for non-members, and $40 for at-door payments.
