"Any sort of detox will result in weight loss, yet the key to healthy weight loss is to eat clean food and stay consistent even after the detox is over," Melissa explained to us in an exclusive interview.

"I provide tools in the clean in 14 on how to take what you learn forward into a lifestyle. Any time you change your diet and take out processed foods, refined sugars, unhealthy fats, your body will automatically respond and let go of weight."

Melissa's clients have lost between five to 20 pounds during the two-week period. While the weight loss numbers depend on varying factors such as metabolism and age, "food-based detoxing is a good way to reset the body in a healthy way so that you can take it forward as a lifestyle for long-term health," she adds.

The two-week plan involves a vegan cleanse, which Melissa says helps your metabolism to function more effectively. "By cutting out animal products, which can make the digestion sluggish, and are overly acidic in nature, your metabolism will benefit from this. Eating more high-alkaline foods, which are offered in this cleanse helps the body to work less hard and the result of that is a reset of sorts."

She notes that her plan "is not about starvation or deprivation, but there is also a mental and emotional component involved, so that the participant can look at any underlying habits that they have picked up that are creating a self-sabotaging cycle." And for those who stress about hunger during a cleanse? It's the opposite, Melissa says.

"The feedback I get most about my cleanses is that there is too much food. Once you start to eat clean, high-nutrient food, your body is actually fed and you will feel less hungry," she notes reassuringly. "You will never starve or feel hungry on this cleanse because there are too many options, and I encourage participants to eat when they are hungry, just to stay in the guidelines of the foods allowed."

One of Melissa's mentors is Tony Horton, creator of P90X3 DVD and author of "Bring It!: The Revolutionary Fitness Plan for All Levels That Burns Fat, Builds Muscle, and Shred Inches",who said: "Missy's cleanse is easy to follow and it breaks down the basics: good, clean eating. Cutting out gluten and sugar gave me more energy than I've ever felt. Do it!"

She says that he helped her "tap into the part of myself that had lost the importance of regular exercise. Although I have been a healthy eater for many, many years, and an athlete most of my life, I lost my desire and motivation to work out for a few years. I was doing the bare minimum. Green with Envy Smoothie
1-1/2 cups coconut water
1 teaspoon maca (I like the Navitas brand raw maca)
2 handfuls of spinach
1 handful kale
1 cup frozen mango
1/2 frozen banana
5 cilantro sprigs
1 handful of ice, optional

Blend ingredients together in a high-powered blender until smooth.
