What if, in just two weeks, you could melt fat, kick your cravings, boost your weight loss and revive your energy? That's precisely what Melissa Costello, Culinary Nutritionist and Certified Wellness Coach, promises you can achieve in her new book: "The Clean in 14 Detox: The 2-Week Plan to Melt Fat, Kick Cravings, and Increase Your Natural Energy"(click for details). It includes recipes - and we've included Melissa's Green with Envy Smoothie concoction below (yum).
You'll learn how to detox and lose weight naturally by eliminating processed foods included refined sugar. "Any sort of detox will result in weight loss, yet the key to healthy weight loss is to eat clean food and stay consistent even after the detox is over," Melissa explained to us in an exclusive interview.
"I provide tools in the clean in 14 on how to take what you learn forward into a lifestyle. Any time you change your diet and take out processed foods, refined sugars, unhealthy fats, your body will automatically respond and let go of weight."
Melissa's clients have lost between five to 20 pounds during the two-week period. While the weight loss numbers depend on varying factors such as metabolism and age, "food-based detoxing is a good way to reset the body in a healthy way so that you can take it forward as a lifestyle for long-term health," she adds.
The two-week plan involves a vegan cleanse, which Melissa says helps your metabolism to function more effectively. "By cutting out animal products, which can make the digestion sluggish, and are overly acidic in nature, your metabolism will benefit from this. Eating more high-alkaline foods, which are offered in this cleanse helps the body to work less hard and the result of that is a reset of sorts."
She notes that her plan "is not about starvation or deprivation, but there is also a mental and emotional component involved, so that the participant can look at any underlying habits that they have picked up that are creating a self-sabotaging cycle." And for those who stress about hunger during a cleanse? It's the opposite, Melissa says.
"The feedback I get most about my cleanses is that there is too much food. Once you start to eat clean, high-nutrient food, your body is actually fed and you will feel less hungry," she notes reassuringly. "You will never starve or feel hungry on this cleanse because there are too many options, and I encourage participants to eat when they are hungry, just to stay in the guidelines of the foods allowed."
One of Melissa's mentors is Tony Horton, creator of P90X3 DVD and author of "Bring It!: The Revolutionary Fitness Plan for All Levels That Burns Fat, Builds Muscle, and Shred Inches",who said: "Missy's cleanse is easy to follow and it breaks down the basics: good, clean eating. Cutting out gluten and sugar gave me more energy than I've ever felt. Do it!"
Tony wrote the preface to Melissa's cookbook "The Karma Chow Ultimate Cookbook: 125+ Delectable Plant-Based Vegan Recipes for a Fit, Happy, Healthy You" (click for details). She says that he helped her "tap into the part of myself that had lost the importance of regular exercise. Although I have been a healthy eater for many, many years, and an athlete most of my life, I lost my desire and motivation to work out for a few years. I was doing the bare minimum. He is such a motivator and awesome inspiration, and he supported me in getting back into regular workouts and stressed the importance of it in my life, especially as I age," she praised.
Seeking other inspirational books when it comes to clean, healthy eating? Melissa told us that she recommends: Kris Carr, author of "Crazy Sexy Diet: Eat Your Veggies, Ignite Your Spark, and Live Like You Mean It," because she focuses on health; Mark Hyman, author of "The Blood Sugar Solution Cookbook: More than 175 Ultra-Tasty Recipes for Total Health and Weight Loss," because of his focus on clean, whole foods and "Eat to Live: The Amazing Nutrient-Rich Program for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss" by Joel Fuhrman.
Included in the book are recipes. We asked Melissa to share her favorite (below). Get more information about "The Clean in 14 Detox: The 2-Week Plan to Melt Fat, Kick Cravings, and Increase Your Natural Energy" by clicking here.
