Two West Coast Conference players will participate in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament beginning next week, the tournament selection committee announced Friday.
BYU forward Brandon Davies and Santa Clara guard Kevin Foster will play in the senior-only event with the hope of improving their status for the upcoming NBA Draft in June.
Davies will be playing for the K&D Rounds Landscaping team and will play its first game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. PT. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 17.7 points and eight rebounds while shooting 52 percent from the field.
Davies scored 20 or more 15 times and had a season-high 33 points on Dec. 15 against Weber State.
Foster will be on the Portsmouth Sports Club and his first game will be on Thursday at 4 p.m. PT.
Foster plays on Friday in the final game of the CBI championship series against George Mason. The guard is Santa Clara’s all-time leading scorer and is the WCC’s all-time leader in made three-pointers.
Foster averaged 19.1 points this season and has been even better in postseason play, upping his production to 26.8 points per game in five CBI games.
The four-day event begins on Wednesday and will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 13 in Portsmouth, Va.
The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament website had reported last week that Saint Mary’s guard Matthew Dellavedova had accepted an invitation for the event but he was not on the rosters revealed today.
A source at Saint Mary’s confirmed Dellavedova said he was not attending the event.
