CLATSKANIE— Seven people sustained injuries in a two-vehicle crash near Wauna Mill on July 27, 2010, according to the Oregon State Police. Emergency response and incident investigation closed the highway was closed for approximately two hours.
At 3:40 p.m., 1997 Buick LeSabre, driven by Jacob N. Sullivan, 16, of Kelso, Wash., was traveling westbound on near milepost 74 when, for some reason, the vehicle traveled across the double solid line into the left eastbound lane, where it collided with the right front section of a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by Heather L. Gibson, 29, of Vancouver, Wash.,
Four occupants in the Avalanche were transported to different hospitals for treatment of what police call non-life-threatening injuries. Gibson and two of her children, 4-year-old Toby and Brianna, age 1 ½, were transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital. The children were secured in rear seats. In the passenger’s seat, Mary Millar, 83, was flown to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland after firefighters extricated her from the vehicle.
In the Buick, Sullivan and Leigha R. Warner, 16, seated in the right front passenger seat, were transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters extricated Warner from the Buick. She was later transferred to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. In the back seat of the car, David Bayer, 16, from Kelso, was transported to St. John Medical Center in Longview, Wash., with non-life-threatening injuries.
At the scene, the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, Knappa Fire Department, Medix Ambulance and ODOT assisted. Troopers from the Oregon State Police Astoria area command office are investigating the incident.
