The weekend before Valentine’s Day, who wouldn’t love some vegan goodies? Luckily for Illinois residents, there are two opportunities to carbo-load on cruelty-free treats for two great causes.
The first vegan bake sale is Saturday, Feb. 9 from 12:00 - 3:00 at Ground Control, 3315 W. Armitage in Logan Square. The bake sale benefits Chicago VeganMania, which is the largest, free vegan festival in the region. This year will be the fifth year (date to be announced soon). With exciting speakers, cooking demos, live music, and dozens of vendors (including Chicago’s largest all-vegan food court), CVM shows the public that compassionate living is not only accessible, it’s fun and dynamic as well. People travel from around the country to attend this spirited event. Of course, it costs thousands of dollars to put on the free festival every year but organizers are committed to keeping it free to the public. Please consider coming to the CVM bake sale on Saturday and letting your friends know about it.
In addition to the regular bake sale, a bunch of fabulous local bakers are offering an opportunity to place pre-orders. By placing pre-orders, you will be able to decide in advance what you’d like: giant cookies with personal inscriptions? Red velvet cupcakes? Cheesecakes? Also all vegan, of course! Go to the Facebook event page to learn about the delectable pre-orders.
The second vegan bake sale will be taking place the following day, Sunday, Feb. 10, and it is to benefit the Kickapoo Animal Rescue Alliance. It is taking place from 1:00 - 3:00 at the Knights of Columbus in Bloomington, IL, 1706 R T Dunn Drive. KARA is a non-profit farm and domestic animal rescue organization located in central IL. Like all shelters, their operating costs are very high with veterinary bills, food purchases, medications and more that are needed for the animals in their care.
Please consider supporting the good work of KARA by donating to them and purchasing items at their bake sale. In addition to the bake sale, there will be a silent auction, light drinks and refreshments as well as a cash bar. If you cannot go to Bloomington but are planning to go to the Chicago VeganMania bake sale, there will be a donation box set up there for KARA for anyone who wants to donate to support their efforts.
I hope to see you out and about next weekend!
