Two dogs brutally slashed with what authorities think was a machete in Edinburg, Texas have undergone surgery, and are recovering on Thursday as reported by Valley Central.com news reporter Marcy Martinez as she gently stroked the paw of Baby, the five-year-old mixed breed family pet at the Pet Doctor 911 in McAllen.
The other dog, seven-year-old Adam, also is recovering from surgery, however his chances of a complete recovery are better than Baby's.
The attack on the dogs took place Monday night.
The dogs' owner Claudia Orozco has no idea why anyone would hurt her dogs. She referred to Adam as "faithful and honorable." A trail of blood leads down Ansley St., but no one saw the egregious attack. The younger dog named Baby, suffered a skull fracture, a deep slash in her face, and muscle damage to her back. Adam's injuries were not as life threatening, and on Wednesday, veterinarians were able to close the deep cuts in his neck and back.
The owners of Baby and Adam were devastated at the senseless animal cruelty crime, but did not have the money to help their dogs. And in stepped Action 4 News with animal advocate Marcy Martinez; the station donated the vet care for the dogs.
Please make sure your pets are always safely secured in the yard or are leashed. Too often dogs who are allowed to run free become the innocent victims of animal abuse and cruelty. Be a responsible pet parent; know where your dog is at all times.
