Two teens were killed in a fiery crash after the driver, who was allegedly speeding, lost control and struck a large brick sign on a Cobb County road Sunday.
The two teens have been identified as Mr. Stephen Nolasco, 19, and his passenger as Mr. Matthew Bennett, 18, both of Marietta, according to Cobb County police.
Now investigators are asking for the public’s help in determining what activities both the driver and passenger may have been involved in prior to the crash.
The crash happened at 3:21 a.m. on Sandy Springs Road at Kinjac Drive in Marietta, police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said.
Investigators said Mr. Nolasco was driving a silver 2001 Volvo S60 northbound on Sandy Plains Road at a high rate of speed when he apparently lost control.
“The car crossed into the southbound lanes of Sandy Plains Road and struck a large brick sign at the intersection of Kinjac Drive,” Officer Bowman said. “After striking the sign, the vehicle caught fire and both the driver and his occupant died as a result.”
Police did not say how fast the driver was going when he hit the sign.
Anyone with information regarding the deadly crash is asked to call investigators at (770) 499-3987.
