Who says Saturday is the worst day to go grocery shopping? The store is crowded, sure, but its for good reason. Here at The Woodlands, you can visit any of the HEB grocery stores on a Saturday at around lunch time and not only do your shopping, but come out very well fed.
In one of their recent tastings at the cooking connection, the store was advertising Cookwell and Company’s two step sauces. On display was the Veracruz sauce, made famous in the coastal state by the same name in Mexico. Traditionally, this sauce is used with fish. Pescado a la Veracruzana. Yet, if you want to improvise, shrimp work just as well.
I am not a big fan of sauces in jars or cans, but The Cookwell and Company sauce has something special: it is completely natural. Just like you’d make it at home, it preserves the flavours that made the fish famous in Mexico.
Two step is exactly what it is, you can put the sauce on a pan and heat it up and just add freshly seasoned fish or shrimps and cook until the seafood is ready. No tricks. Serve with some rice and freshly steamed veggies and you have a delicious dinner that is also healthy. For an Italian twist on this two step trick, try their cacciatore sauce with chicken or pork.
The lesson learned? Not only that you can simplify your cooking and make every meal delicious for your family, but that it’s okay to stop and taste the samples in your grocery store: you never know what you will like.
