Two police officers on paid leave pending hearings after car accident with bus

Two Jackson police officers are on paid administrative leave pending hearings after they were involved in a minor accident with a city bus last month.

On Feb. 19, a minor traffic accident occurred involving a Jackson Police Department patrol vehicle occupied by two police officers and a Jackson Transit Authority bus, according to a news release from Jackson Police Deputy Chief Barry Michael.

The release said as an officer opened a door to exit the vehicle, the door came into contact with the passing JTA bus. Both vehicles suffered minor damage and no injuries occurred.

An administrative investigation into the incident has revealed possible issues regarding the officers’ adherence to proper procedures when such an incident occurs, as well as the accuracy of the report which was submitted by the officers, the release said.

The names of the officers have not been released.
