Two incidents of utility workers being injured on the job today are under investigation in Dallas.
First, an elderly homeowner fired a gun at a utility worker after mistaking him for a burglar.
The second incident involved a homeowner backing his car into a worker after a long-running dispute about a tree, according to Associated Press reports.
Neither of the Oncor employees were seriously hurt.
In the first incident, the field technician who was wearing a hardhat and uniform, knocked on the door of a 79-year-old man's south Dallas home. When he did not get an answer, he left a flier and then went to the back of the house and used a ladder to climb a fence to get access to the meter.
The homeowner told police that he was awakened by sounds of the worker banging on the side of his house. Police say he fired twice through the back door, and the technician was struck by flying splinters when a shotgun round hit a wooden post.
The second incident involved a north Dallas homeowner backing his car into an Oncor employee as trimmed a tree away from a power line. According the Associated Press, the homeowner did not want the tree trimmed.
