Two Northern California golf courses: Hiddenbrooke Golf Club, in Vallejo, and Lincoln Hills Golf Club, in Lincoln, will be among the estimated 120-plus golf clubs in 28 states participating in the fourth annual “World’s Largest Golf Outing” (WLGO) on August 11, 2014, a charitable event which raises money for Wounded Warrior Project. In an announcement on July 8, 2014, the organizers of the event, Billy Casper Golf, a nationwide golf course and resort management firm, unveiled the grand prizes for the event: a trip for four to the Nike campus in Beaverton, Oregon, for custom club-fitting and other Nike golf merchandise, and a trip for four to Pinehurst, North Carolina, site of the recent men’s and women’s U.S Opens, to play Pinehurst No. 2 and stay at the world-famous Carolina Hotel.

Golf outings which raise money for charitable causes are not unusual; in fact, golf-related outings and events are significant contributors to charitable giving in the United States. What makes WLGO unique is the fact that the event is comprised of simultaneous tournaments held all across the United States in support of the same cause, the Wounded Warrior Project, the national organization whose mission is to honor and empower U. S. military personnel who are wounded in the service of their country.

Four-player teams will play a shotgun-start, scramble format tournament, and teams at each course will be eligible to win prizes based on both their team score and their fundraising total. The event website provides each team with the opportunity to gather donation pledges from friends, family, and community. A portion of the paid entry fees (which varies from course to course), and all pledge donations from non-players, benefit Wounded Warrior Project. Teams are encouraged to raise additional funds to support this worthy cause.

The winning team from each participating course—anticipated to be more than 120 in 28 states—will be entered into a drawing for tickets to the 2015 PGA Championship. Other prizes include equipment and apparel from leading golf brands. All teams are eligible for the Nike Campus prize, while the Pinehurst prize goes to the team which raises the most money for Wounded Warrior Project.

“The World’s Largest Golf Outing continues to raise the bar in giving back to our country’s heroes,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of Billy Casper Golf. “The generosity of Billy Casper Golf’s industry partners and golfers at large is humbling.”

Hiddenbrooke Golf Club, located at 1095 Hiddenbrooke Parkway, in Vallejo, will be running a morning WLGO scramble tournament at rates of $65 per single, $130 per twosome, and $260 per foursome. Lincoln Hills Golf Course, 1005 Sun City Lane, Lincoln, will be running morning and afternoon scrambles for the event, at the same rates.
