Family entertaining at L.A. LIVE just got twice as fun with two new kid friendly fast-casual restaurants at the shopping-dining-entertainment complex. Smashburger and Live Basil Pizza opened last week with a preview of their menus, both emphasizing fresh locally sourced ingredients and creativity with traditional foods.
Live Basil Pizza offers an assembly line where patrons can direct their pizza making. Kids can help pick out their favorite toppings and make original creations, choosing from old-school favorites like peperoni, smoked ham, bacon meatballs and sweet sausage or more unexpected choices like pineapple, marinated papers, fresh arugula, spicy Giardiniera and olive oil, all on a gluten free crust.
Of course the menu also features signature pizzas to choose from, like the Farm Stand Natural Veggie, the Mediterranean Chicken + Organic Spinach, the Natural Three Meat, and Natural Chicken Pesto. Besides pizza, other fresh fare on the menu includes salads, from the basic Simple Bistro Salad to the gourmet Arugula, Lemon + Pistachio Salad.
After ordering, your pizza is then baked and ready to go in about 150 seconds. For anyone who has had to wait to order and be served food with impatient hungry cranky kids, you know what a blessing this quick service is.
What Live Basil Pizza is to pizza, Smashburger is to burgers. The growing chain is spreading its burger love across SoCal with new locations popping up everywhere and the latest at L.A. Live. Smashburger specializing in fresh, never frozen 100% certified Angus beef. The smashing comes in when the thick beef patties are made. But don’t worry those rotund burgers will be too pink in the middle -- everything is cooked to medium, no matter how you like it.
If your tastes run traditional taste, try the Classic Smash, or if you want a bit of spice try the Spicy Baja or Spicy Veggie Black Bean. Besides beef burgers, the menu features a number of SmachChicken burgers, such as the Truffle Mushroom Swiss or the Avocado Club.
The not-to-miss item is the Smashfries, tossed with rosemary, olive oil and garlic. The Sweet Potato Fries are also pretty awesome. The big finish is the Haage-Dazs shakes and malts, including the Oreo, Nutter Butter and Butterfinger shakes.
Live Basil Pizza and Smashburger joing good company at L.A. Live where other dinign options include Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Katsuya, Lawry's, Rock'N Fish, Rosa Mexicano, The Farm of Beverly Hills, Trader Vic's, Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, and Yard House.
