Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel broke the windows of a SUV in the parking lot at the Mall of Wellington Green on Sunday to rescue two Maltese puppies from the hot vehicle reported cbs12news.

A security guard called the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office after a Good Samaritan reported seeing the puppies in the vehicle.

According to GossipExtra, the owners of the two-month-old puppies were identified as Kevans and Ma Cadet of West Palm Beach. The couple admitted to leaving the puppies in the vehicle while they shopped and dined at the mall.

The couple have been charged with animal cruelty.

The temperature inside of the vehicle registered at 123 degrees. The puppies were panting heavily and soaked in saliva and urine.

The puppies are expected to be fine and are currently in the custody of Palm Beach Animal Care and Control. The owners are being asked to relinquish ownership of the dogs.

"This is South Florida you irresponsible owners," stated Barb Smith of Wellington. "Only a complete fool would be stupid enough to leave pets in a hot parking lot anywhere for even five minutes, no less than to be so completely irresponsible and leave puppies in there while you two shop and eat."

Do not leave your pets in cars.
