Two New Hampshire men spent 15 hours overnight on top of a capsized boat off the coast of Massachusetts praying that someone would find them. The 15-hour ordeal had the men shivering in the temperatures that dipped into the 40s as waves constantly crashed over them, according to USA Today on Oct. 20.
George Reynolds of Derry and Fred Schaeffer of Raymond were sailing in a 25-foot trimaran when it capsized. The two men sat on a plank over two hulls all through the night. To help them through the ordeal the sang gospel songs and prayed for a rescue.
The prayed the winds would stay calm, the seas would stay calm and they prayed for strength as they shivered uncontrollably soak and wet with no one else in sight. Most of all they prayed for a rescue as they sat back to back on that plank in one very scary situation.
Their prayer for a rescue was answered about 7 a.m. when a fishing boat spotted the friends and picked them up. The men were brought into shore where emergency medical technicians were waiting. The men were checked before going home.
