Two local products chosen in 2011 MLB Draft

According to Baseball Canada, thirty-five Canadians were drafted in the 2011 Major League Baseball draft this week.

Among those drafted, included left handed pitcher Jake Hansen of Fort MacLeod, Alberta, who was drafted in the 30th round, 912th overall, by the New York Mets, and third baseman Brendan Hendriks of Cochrane, Alberta, who was drafted in the 40th round, 1231st overall by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Both Hansen and Hendriks currently play for the Lethbridge Bulls. Hansen is part of the Prairie Baseball Academy in Lethbridge, while Hendriks is a member of the Vauxhall Academy. Hansen and Hendriks also play for the Canadian National Junior Team.

Hansen's most impressive outing of his career came in the bronze medal game at the 2010 Baseball Canada Cup in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Hansen pitched four and a third innings, gave up one hit, struck out five and walked three as Team Alberta defeated Team Quebec 6-0 to win the bronze medal.
