It’s a new year and that means it is time again to make some wonderful resolutions to better ourselves. If you are looking to expand your cultural horizons this year, the 555 Gallery on Vernor Highway and the Motor City Brewing Works have regular events to help you do just that.

Starting Saturday January 4th, the 555 Gallery while have their biweekly monthly Open Mic night. Here from 7 PM - 10 PM every 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, you can come enjoy local culture or share your own. You’ll have everything from music to poetry to whatever performance one can share. It’s a truly unique experience that you can see with just a suggested donation of $5. Besides that, you can also come before the Open Mic event and see the latest exhibition.

If you’re looking for something a little less intense, why not try Motor City Brewing Works’ weekly, “This Week in Art.” Every Wednesday they feature a different local artist that you can come and see while drinking a local brew as well. On top of that lovely combo, most artists are also selling the pieces you see. You never know which Wednesday will have the piece that you have been dreaming of owning.

Between these two events, you will always have a way to squeeze in some of that wonderful Detroit culture that you have been longing to know more about. The time to see what you’ve been missing is now!
