The two kinds of people who will never make it or get ahead in business are those who
- Will NOT do what they are told and
- Those who do ONLY what they are told.
It would be challenging to tell which fate would be more disappointing,
- One bouncing around from one job to another because they are always the first to be laid off, or
- Working in, as Napoleon Hill stated, "in monotonous obscurity" at the same job.
Number one up there is a direct results from one who will not do what they are told to do and the second one comes from doing only what one is told to do.
Nobody can just “get by” anymore. Following either of these attitudes is a following a clear cut path to average. And is Grant Cardone clearly states in chapter 8 of the 10X Rule, Average Is A Failing Formula.
To thrive in this economy, one must take real interest and initiative. The ability to learn and take direction from other people is a critical skill. To think as one who has all the answers is limiting thinking that will not serve the one who is choosing prosperity over poverty.
As the markets and technology continue to advance and shift the way business is done, it will those with initiative and determination and who are willing to think outside the box and do whatever it takes who will rise to the top.
If one waits, he will surely get passed up. Fortunately, this is a lesson that does not have to be learned by experience. The one with the entrepreneurial mindset who doesn't wait, knows his company, treats his employer like a client and not a boss, will get recognized and be lifted out of obscurity in the organization.
As technology makes many supervisory functions obsolete, every one of us is expected to do more with less, determine what needs to be done, and do it. Don’t wait to be told. Know your company and your job so well that you can anticipate what needs to be done — then do it! Stop explaining and start doing!
