Two killed on Virginia naval base

Two people were killed – a sailor and a civilian – last night during a shooting at a US Naval base in Norfolk, Virginia. The shooting occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m. last night at Pier 1, according to the Navy via Twitter. No other injuries were reported.

Naval security responded and the naval station was put on lockdown. That restriction has since been lifted.

The deceased sailor, according to Reuters, was on active duty. The civilian has not been identified. The shooting took place on board the USS Mahan, reported WAVY-TV.

The investigation is continuing.
