The Forney Police Department arrested two Kaufman County men on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in connection with a series of storage facility break-ins. Arrested were Jason William Byrne of Kaufman and Kirk Wayne Sandlin of Kemp.

Police were investigating multiple break-ins and had the Marquis Ranch Self-Storage business under surveillance in hopes of catching the thieves. On December 31 they observed a vehicle that matched the description they had been given in connection with previous burglaries. According to Detective Michael Clay, the officers observed the suspect vehicle attempting to gain access through the security gate of the storage facility. When they could not gain access, the suspects backed out to leave.

Forney officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and arrested the two suspects on unrelated charges. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered stolen property. According to Detective Clay, “The Forney Criminal Investigations Department located additional stolen property from different pawn shops in the Dallas area and from a hotel where the suspects were staying.”

Byrne and Sandlin were both charged with two counts of Burglary of a Building. Byrne's bonds were set at $25,000.00 while Sandlin's bonds were set at $35,000.00. Additional charges are pending.
