Two people were injured in a Daytona Beach accident Monday when a car ran into the side of a building on Beach Street. Daytona Beach Fire Department spokesperson David Newell says the crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of North Beach Street. The driver and passenger of the car were transported to Halifax Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Fire Departments says witnesses reported that the car was southbound on Beach Street, and “…appeared to be going fast…” when it swerved as the driver applied brakes, but could not stop before hitting the building. One lane of North Beach Street was also closed Monday afternoon while Daytona Beach Police worked the accident investigation.
One unit of the two-unit building was also declared uninhabitable afterwards by a Daytona Beach Building official, according to the Fire Department, until a structural engineer inspects the damage. The business owner is using the other unit of the building in the meantime.
