Minnesota and Michigan State continue their Big Ten seasons with a two-game series in East Lansing, Michigan this weekend. Before you go celebrate the holidays, let’s give you one last look at an “Inside the Numbers” piece for the calendar year of 2013:
4: Four is the magic number for Seth Ambroz, who last weekend had four goals and four assists versus the Wisconsin Badgers. That play earned him a Big Ten First Star earlier this week.
7: With Ambroz’s award, seven different Gophers have earned high praise from the corporate office of the Big Ten Conference in Chicago.
5: In the last five games played between the two schools in East Lansing, Minnesota is 1-1-3. Minnesota has a 2-1 win from 2009 to their credit, but Michigan State won the first of two in 2011 by a 4-3 count.
42: On the road, Minnesota has a 42-26-6 record against Michigan State. That includes the 1-1-3 mark that was mentioned above.
13: Thirteen Gopher skaters have points in their careers versus Michigan State. AJ Michaelson, who has played in one game versus MSU, hasn’t tallied a single point.
.962: Michael Shibrowski, at 96.2%, actually has the better save percentage of the two Gopher tenders. Adam Wilcox only has a .909 against Sparty.
10: In ten games where Minnesota has outshot their opponent, the Gophers are 8-1-1.
6: In the six times where Minnesota has lit the lamp first, the Gophers are 5-0-1.
9: When Minnesota scores 4+ goals in a game, the Gophers are a perfect 9-0-0.
