Two former Ducks to compete in Super Bowl XLVI

While my San Francisco 49ers weren't able to beat the New York Giants on Sunday, at least they lost to a former Oregon Ducks football player. With the Giants and New England Patriots now set to play each other in Super Bowl XLVI on February 5, 2012, one Oregon football player will become a Super Bowl champion.

Safety Patrick Chung of the Patrios and linebacker Spencer Paysinger of the Giants will square off on football's biggest stage.

Chung, in his third season after being drafted in the 2nd round in 2009, had 62 tackles and an interception in 2011. Injuries limited him to just 8 games during the regular season. In New England's AFC Championship victory over Baltimore, Chung recorded five tackles, giving him nine tackles in the 2012 playoffs.

Paysigner, who is limited to special teams for the Giants, recorded one tackle in their win over the 49ers. Two special teams takeaways for New York ultimately vaulted Paysinger's squad to the Super Bowl.

Paysinger is in his first NFL season after helping lead the Ducks to the team's first-ever BCS National Championship game. Oregon lost that game to Auburn, 22-19, on February 10, 2011.

Oregon had seven total players in the championship games on Sunday. Unfortunately, with Baltimore and San Francisco getting knocked out, five Oregon players were eliminated from the Super Bowl picture: Haloti Ngata (BAL), Ed Dickson (BAL), Adam Snyder (SF), Justin Peelle (SF), and Will Tukuafu (SF).
