Walkers can enjoy two free fall foliage volkssport walks this weekend in the Portland area. On Saturday, October 19, 2013 get happy with the Happy Valley Hills and Hollows Walk. Walkers can choose an easy 5K (3.1 mile) walk that includes neighborhoods and boardwalks through wetlands, or a more challenging 10K (6.1 mile) walk that also includes hills and forested trails along Mt. Scott Creek. Registration and start is at Happy Valley Park, 13770 SE Ridgecrest Way, Happy Valley, Oregon. You can register and start any time from 10 am to 1 pm. The walk is hosted by the East County Windwalkers and is open to everyone.
On Sunday, October 20, 2013 walkers will enjoy the stunning fall colors in Sherwood neighborhoods on the Sherwood Merrywalkers' Fall Foliage and Soup Walk. Registration and start is at the Sherwood YMCA, 23000 SW Pacific Highway, Sherwood, Oregon. You can start from 10 am until 1 pm. The walk includes a 5K or 10K route, both rated easy. The walk is free, but they ask walkers to bring cans of soup or boxes of macaroni and cheese to donate to the Sherwood Shelter. There is hot soup provided at the end of the walk, along with recipes. Bring your camera and enjoy the stroll.
Both of these events are offered to the public by non-profit volkssport walking clubs. Walkers can earn IVV credit for a $3 fee. Both walks welcome pets on leash.
