On December 16, 2013, two dogs were rescued from near death in Richford, Vermont. Father and daughter Randall Sheperd and Casey Sheperd have been charged with two counts of animal cruelty each, according to MassLive. The dogs were being housed in a locked, unheated camper in temperatures that were only in the single digits. Both dogs were severely malnourished.
Vermont police arrived on the scene to discover the dogs “within 24 hours of death”, with no food, water or shelter from the brutal cold. The dogs were also suffering severely from hook worms.
Both dogs got veterinary care and were placed with the Franklin County Humane Society. Randall and Casey Sheperd were arrested, processed and then released. They are scheduled to appear in court in mid-February.
The Franklin County Humane Society is located in St. Albans and is a 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abused animals.
