UPDATE 2/9/14: Little Puppy, now named Champ, had surgery to remove his right eye and begin reconstruction. The SPCA says he does have vision in his left eye.

The SPCA of Westchester in New York has reported that an injured 5-month-old pit bull puppy and two adult pit bulls were brought to them after being seized by police on Wednesday, January 29.

They were found living in a filthy, allegedly abandoned apartment.

Sadly, the puppy is suffering from severe injuries due to blunt force trauma to the head and face.

Part of his skull was crushed. He also had several facial wounds that had become infected and were covered in dead tissue. The SPCA states on their Facebook page that he will lose one eye but they believe the other will be okay.

He is receiving pain and wound management, daily anesthesia, antibiotics, bandage changes, and tender loving care. He will require reconstructive surgeries and skin grafts. If you would like to donate to his care, you can do so here.

"The severe abuse and neglect this puppy endured caused him to suffer terribly; we can't imagine who would be so cruel. Despite the severity of his injuries, 'little puppy' is the sweetest thing, responding favorably to the loving attention he is receiving from our SPCA staff."

They are asking their followers to help name him. The list of choices are on their Facebook page.

This case is now under investigation and anyone with information is being asked to call the SPCA's confidential animal abuse hotline at 914-941-7797.

At this time, we have no information on the condition of the two adult dogs. We will update as soon as information becomes available.
