Two dead in University of Maryland shooting

Did you hear about the shooting at the University of Maryland? Apparently, one of their students shot his two roommates early Tuesday. Then this gunman committed suicide.

Police found the handgun that was used in the shootings along with “a bag of weapons near the gunman’s body — including a loaded semiautomatic weapon that was not used in the attack, a machete and a baseball bat.”

According to the New York Times, Dayvon Green, 23, started “small fires in the basement and the backyard of the house.” That was when his roommates woke up and tried to convince Green to assist them in putting out the fires.

When one of his roommates attempted to enter the house to get water, Green pulled out a gun and shot him. Fortunately, this victim was able to escape to a neighbor’s house. Authorities said he is in stable condition.

“The other roommate, however, identified by the police as Stephen Alex Rane, was shot several times and collapsed outside the house.”

Shortly after shooting his roommates, Green went to the back of the house and killed himself, according to police.

“Throughout the day on Tuesday, the university made walk-in emergency counseling available for students.”
