Two dead dogs, litter of starved puppies dumped at shelter

It wasn’t a good day for the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Two dead dogs and a bucketful of emaciated puppies were abandoned at the shelter last Tuesday.

Shelter employees found the deceased dogs in the morning. They believe the dogs had died possibly 10 to 12 hours before being dumped at the animal center during the night. Later the same day, a litter of sickly, starved puppies was found abandoned at the shelter.

When they first arrived, the five pit bull mix puppies were all skin and bones. The puppies are now in good hands, getting food and proper medical care.

The pups are all currently in foster care so they can “heal and grow strong” until they are ready for adoption, according to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s Facebook page. Watch the slideshow for photos of the puppies.

A post by the shelter on Facebook says “Our organization is also always looking for people interested in becoming fosters. By being a foster you are helping those that are too young or too sick grow strong and healthy in a home environment until they are ready for our adoption program. To become a foster, contact our foster coordinator Janie Davis at jdavis@hsdayton.org or (937) 262-5937.”

Anyone who has any information on who dropped off the puppies is asked to call Chief Humane Agent Sheila Marquis at (937) 262-8091. Callers will remain anonymous.
