Early Thursday morning, a suspected drunk driver crashed into a crowd of people standing outside of a venue hosting SXSW events. According to Austin Police Officer Jermaine Kilgore, the driver of the car was attempting to evade police at the time of the crash.

According to reports, police attempted to stop the suspect on a traffic violation. However, the suspect fled down the wrong way on a one-way street. Then the suspect made a turn onto Red River Street, however, it was barricaded due to festival activities.

So far, a man and a woman died from the incident, and 23 more were injured. Five of the victims are still in critical condition from the out of control car.

The two deceased victims were on a moped, and there are reports that the assailant also struck a cab before taking off on foot. The suspect has been charged with murder.

The Police have the suspect in custody after incapacitating him with a stun gun.

The Police won’t release names of the decease until all of the proper notifications have been handled.
