Welcome to Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory but in Tampa instead. The Festival of Chocolate started today at Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) and will be around for the next two days Sunday, January 20 and Monday the 21st.
The festival started at 9 a.m. with loads of fun, education, samples, contests and of course lots of goodies to buy from vendors all with chocolate in mind. Even the unthinkable had chocolate or cocoa - chocolate dipped jalapenos, treats for dogs, goat soaps and of course the old time favorites strawberries dipped in chocolate and coconut flake strawberries, assorted candy apples, ice cream, brownies, chocolate covered pretzels and tons more to fill your sweet tooth craving or just savor with your eyes.
And to mention also are the chocolate flavored wines, chocolate barbecue sauces, dips, vinegars and meat marinades also available for purchase. Keep an eye open as there are several samples of sweets and drinks throughout the event. Purchases are made only with chocolate coins that are available for purchase at MOSI.
From the youngest to the oldest there were many events to enjoy and participate in including Kids-4-Chocolate, Adults-4-Chocolate, Wine and Chocolate Pairing, Chocolate Classes and Chocolate Competitions that included a Cocoa Couture Fashion Show and "Best of" Chocolate Indulgence Competition that took place today.
If you missed the first day of The Festival of Chocolate then have no worries there are two more days left and if you want to be a part of two Guinness World Record attempts it will be on Monday, January 21. For participation information and to sign up since spots are limited go to Festival of Chocolate Guinness World Records Attempt. Entry is included with MOSI admission: adults $21.95; seniors $19.95 and children (ages 2 - 12) $17.95; MOSI members' adults $10 and children 12 and under free.
