Two Port Orange residents were killed in an accident on Dunlawton Avenue early Sunday morning. Port Orange Assistant Police Chief Wayne M. Miller says the two killed were James H. Shinaver, who was around 69 years old; and Teresa C. Shinaver, who was around 57 years old. Two or three others in the crash were not yet identified in a press release as of Sunday evening, but Assistant Chief Miller said they were listed Sunday afternoon in stable condition at Halifax Hospital, after being initially transported to Halifax with serious injuries after the crash.
Port Orange Police say the crash happened at around ten minutes after midnight Sunday, at Dunlawton Avenue and Yorktown Boulevard, east of the Target shopping center near I-95 and Dunlawton Boulevard. Assistant Chief Miller says the Shinavers were pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the Shinaver’s were in a 2006 Nissan SUV, and the other vehicle in the crash was a 2013 BMW SUV.
Port Orange Police also detoured traffic around the intersection after the traffic signal was damaged in the accident. Police tape and a bent pole near the signal equipment could be seen at the intersection Sunday afternoon. The Department of Transportation responded to the scene early Sunday morning.
